Three Snowstorms Expected This Week, Ten Inches In Total
Madison is set to receive almost as much snow in a single week as it has so far this winter.

It’s going to be a busy week for weather here in Madison starting tonight, with a total of around ten inches of snow expected between now and Sunday. There are three snow events to keep an eye on, and two that could have significant impacts. Expect an Alert Day (or two) to be declared later in the week.
Monday
We should only see around a half-inch of accumulation tonight, beginning between 7-9 PM and continuing into early tomorrow morning. The city is unlikely to commit any major plowing efforts tonight given the small amount of snow expected.
Tuesday
No snow expected Tuesday, but wind chills will fall below zero in the morning, with temperatures around ten degrees.
Wednesday
Wednesday has the greatest potential for major impacts and school closures. We are currently expecting around five inches between 6 AM Wednesday and 6 AM Thursday, with the bulk of the snow (3.1 inches) occurring before Wednesday night. The city will almost certainly declare a snow emergency and plow all roads in response. Keep an eye on the closure forecast Tuesday to monitor the chance of a snow day. Temperatures will remain below freezing overnight, so all snowfall should stick. Winds will peak around 15 mph, with limited gusts, so there shouldn’t be much blowing snow.
Thursday
Wednesday’s storm will taper off in the early morning hours Thursday, with no other threats after that.
Friday
Friday afternoon is when things pick up again, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Light snow will start around noon, with snowfall getting heavier Friday evening and continuing overnight.
Saturday
Snow should continue all the way through Saturday night, with a little over five inches expected all together. Expect streets to be plowed/treated again, and significant travel impacts Saturday.
Sunday
Nothing to watch for snow-wise Sunday at this time, but wind chills will be around negative ten degrees in the morning.
All in all, we should be getting around ten or more inches of snow, when we have only received 11.6 inches thus far this year. Stay safe and follow the site for updates!
